Nokia N70 – Out with the old – In with the new…..Nokia N95

I’ve been using the Nokia N70 for about 12months now – my first impressions was “sure as hell, not *%* as user friendly as previous Nokia models I had” – but once you get to use the phone, you realise it’s time for a change. Meanwhile back at the ranch it actually still is, as user-friendly – just with different names and “shortcuts”.

But unfortunately it’s time to move on to something better….With this in mind, what a coincidence that we’re exposed to new phones on a daily basis? Printed media and television adverts are cluttered with all kinds of phone combo specials. None the less, I came across the N70’s bigger brother – it’s very nice…you don’t believe me?

Ok, let me sketch a scenario……..let’s say you get lost somewhere in the concrete jungle of central Joburg, on your way to that important meeting…..you’re calmly thinking I should have spoiled myself with that GPS!

But, what if, the misses was in the car with you….?  Yes, you’ll never hear the end of getting her lost……NOT EVER! Now, you’re seriously thinking, I should have bought that F**** GPS for Christmas! Lol, it’s a cruel world my friends….

Not to worry guys and gals….  The new Nokia N95 will solve the problem! Not only a flashy phone for the corporate, but also a toy for when he/she have some time to play…. Equipped with an integrated GPS with maps application, finding your way just got easier. Restaurants, hotels and routes are located easily by utilising the maps database of more than 100 countries. Voice guided navigation and city guide features also available.

Now you’re thinking, just a glorified Garmin to make phone calls with….. Not at all, it’s packed with other goodies as well. The N95’s stunning 3D graphical user interface makes it easy for you to find services or features you want. A numeric keypad slides out from one end of the device while dedicated media keys slide out from the opposite direction, converting the display into full screen landscape mode – thanks to the innovative 2-way slide concept.

It supports UPnP (Universal Plug & Play) technology so that you can enjoy DVD-like b-day or year-end video clips and print quality phodies – thanks to the 5-megapixel camera - on a compatible television (via the TV-out feature built into the device).  Even if you don’t have a TV nearby, you’ll still be stunned by the 3D graphics, 2.6” QVGA 16 million colour display, 3D stereo effect offered by the built-in stereo speakers and 3.5mm audio jack. Data can be transferred by using the mini USB connector or stored on the 1GB microSD card.

With the device you can browse the internet, read email, stream video and download large files up to 10 times faster than with 3G – this is due to its HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) network compatibility.  It also supports WLAN, EDGE and WCDMA.

This feature packed single device, not only fits easily into your pocket, but it’ll also replace all your stand-alone devices such as a PDA, iPod, digital camera etc. No wonder Nokia calls the N95 a “Multimedia Computer”…..or shall I say “Multimedia packed Supertoy”….
